"I (heart) Boobies" Bracelet Ban
A school district in Philadelphia Pennsylvania banned the popular "I (heart) Boobies" bracelets which were designed and sold to raise money for breast cancer awareness. Two young girls have filed free speech lawsuits against the school after being suspended and banned from school activities over wearing the bracelets which at the time were not banned. One of the girls mothers was astonished that an educational and non-vulgar item was banned when "There were teachers that had 'breast cancer awareness' T-shirts on" in October. Many schools have banned the bracelets stating that "the message was getting lost on the ninth-grade boys who were wearing them." No other school in the country has had lawsuits brought against them for freedom of speech violations from the bracelets. While the girls have every right to freedom of speech this I see this case going to the school district. The school does have the right to ban items of jewelery and clothing as it deems fit. Winning this case is going to be extremely hard to do.
